Malibu Auction at Northies for the McGrath Foundation

The Southside Malibu Club will be auctioning the surfboard at left made by Jim Parkinson at Jackson Surfboards to help raise funds for the McGrath Foundation at 6 pm Saturday 11 Sept at Northies. The board has been signed under the glass by Glenn McGrath so will make a great collectable.

Fletch Hayllar

Fletcher Hayllar surfing a clean little bank on the high tide at the end of the wall at North Cronulla on sunrise before heading off to work at Qantas.

Ben Player at The Shark Island Challenge

The image at left is of Ben Player who was runner up at the event which was won by Ryan Hardy. The sequence was shot by Brad Whittaker. To view more images from the session CLICK HERE to view the slideshow.

Joe Cool aka Dennis Galvin

The image at left is of the newly retired Dennis Galvin. Since he has retired he has been making the most of any surfing opportunity that comes his way. In this image at left he is surfing a fun, clean little left and right bank just at the end of the wall at North Cronulla at about 8.30 am just after the school and work crew have left. Now that is enjoying retirement. To view more images from the session CLICK HERE to view the slideshow.

Mollymook Longboard Charity Classic

The image at left is of Jack Entwistle who won the junior division of the Mollymook Longboard Charity Classic held at Golf Course Reef, Mollymook over the weekend of August 7/8. Ray Lawrence won both the Open 9' and 8' divsions. Local legend Laurie Andrews won the the over 60s and Jake Bevan won the Old Mal. More details will be published soon. Kipp Caddy

The image at left is of 13 year old Kipp Caddy. His dad Brett took us, with Jai Walsh and his dad, down south to a reef that we could only access by boat. We left before dawn, drove for an hour and the boat trip to the reef took us over another hour but all the effort was worthwhile to score some remote waves by ourselves. One from the 'Wayback" Machine

Found this photo in a bunch of stuff Dave Wilson sent me awhile back. That is Dave on the right with Donald Takayama drapped around his shoulders. Dane Wilson is on the extreme left and for those of you who are avid followers of the WCT circuit the little guy with the flowers on his head is Julian Wilson. The others L to R are Belen & Kevin Connelly, Darren Ledingham, Seb & Bart Wilson and of course Julian in the front. They also all look like they are wearing the shell necklaces that Nola Wilson (Julian, Seb & Bart's mum) makes.

The Camera Board Shot

The shot at left is of Dave McKinley surfing the camera board at Shark Island around 1997. This shot ran on the front cover of the Tracks photo annual at the time and a similar shot from the same roll of film won the Grand Prize in the professional division of the Canon Asia/Pacific photo competition, a big deal at the time scoring me about $20K in cash and camera gear. The camera was mounted to the front of the board in a housing that Jim Lucas at Force 9 helped me make and triggered by a radio remote that I adapted from the ones used for model cars. This was our 2nd go at it. The 1st time we flooded the housing.

Canon 5D camera Board

The image at left was a collaboration between Brad and myself with a Canon 5D, a fisheye lens and remote pocket wizard inside a Aquatech housing mounted on the front of the board and triggered by me standing on the beach (I got the easy job) with a pocket wizard remote. Totally weight is about 3 kilos and makes the board hard to ride but Brad seems to be doing OK. It is a lot easier today as we are using the new HD GoPro cameras (see video below in left column).
